What do you think of when you hear the words, “Escape Room?” Most people think it sounds like something out of a horror movie, like Saw, or they think of something similar to a panic room of sorts. Escape rooms are actually one of the best and most fun things you and a team of people could ever do! An escape room is a unique gaming experience where you and a team of people are locked in a room for a limited time (usually an hour) and you have to find all the clues and solve all the puzzles in that time to ‘escape the room.’ Here’s a list of 5 reasons that anyone should participate in an escape room challenge:
1.) Challenge
Escape rooms offer a unique challenge that you won’t find anywhere else.
Every clue and puzzle will require you to think outside the box in some way because the answers are not always what you would expect them to be. Since the puzzles create out-of-the-box thinking, this invites creativity and ingenuity between each team member in the room. Participating in an escape room gives you the excuse to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. While you’ve probably been in a room before, you’ve probably never been locked in a room where you only get out if you solve all the puzzles, or the time runs out.
2.) Good for your Brain
We’ve all heard that doing jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, word searches, and sudoku are good for us because they encourage a mental workout and can aid in memory. Think of an escape room as just a really big jigsaw puzzle that involves many of smaller puzzles within it. Solving puzzles also accelerates ingenuity in our thinking because if one solution to the puzzle doesn’t work, then one must create a new solution, and that’s where the outside-the-box thinking plays into the experience.
3.) Teambuilding
Escape rooms are great for teambuilding. What could be a better way to get group of people to work together way than to lock them in a room where it is nearly impossible to get out by yourself? An escape room is the perfect place to bring about great communication between people. In each room, you have to work with your team, or you probably won’t win the game. Think about it, an escape room is basically a place where you’re no longer working against the other players but working with them to achieve a common goal.
4.) Date night
There is no better way to test your compatibility with another person than by locking yourself in a room together to solve puzzles. Escape rooms will test your communication skills with another person and will help you to see how well you work with other people, especially your significant other. Along with date night, escape rooms make great double dates for you and a couple of friends. Escape rooms are a really simple way to make sure everyone is included in the fun!
5.) Family Bonding
Not only do escape rooms test your cooperative skills, they are great for bringing the family together. Escape rooms are great for kids 12 and up to come in and enjoy with their family. For at least one hour, no one is checking instagram or facebook and no one is sending snaps on snapchat, but everyone is talking and working together! Escape rooms cater to a large age range so that everyone in your family can share in the experience and create lasting memories.

I had no idea that there were escape rooms that offered challenging activities to help you to escape from a room that you are trapped in. I like the idea that it is a game that challenges you and uses your brain power to help you solve problems. It seems like a great way to get to know someone better and to learn how to better work in a team which is important.
I like that you mentioned that escape rooms are a great way to team build. It makes sense that putting coworkers on the same task would help them learn to work together. The company I work for is trying to improve our culture and work on teambuilding. I will suggest an escape room, it could be a great option!

The rate of escape rooms is now growing as of late with more and more creative rooms coming up each month.
Escape rooms are now adapting to a wide variety of crowds from kids to elderly and can be quite challenging.
We hope to play a lot more escape rooms in the near future!
Never thought that escape room can be so important for my team at work…really helped to see who’s the leader etc. Thanks for the article!
I liked that you mentioned that a great way to test your compatibility on a date is by going through an escape room. By talking to the person that you’re with and solving the puzzles together will help you see how well you work together. I attended an escape room on a group date and I noticed that by talking through the puzzles and clues with the people I was with, we were able to come up with more ideas and possible solutions. I definitely agree that my date and I learned more about each other and I recommend this date idea to my college friends.
I like how you said that escape rooms are good for family bonding. My family needs to grow closer. I’ll look for an escape room to visit.
