When people hear the words ‘escape room’ they often have an idea of what the experience will look like. These ideas are typically based on what they have seen in movies and t.v. shows, which as we’ve shared in a previous blog, tv show’s don’t always have the right idea about escape rooms. No matter where the ideas come from, the point is, there are some common myths about escape rooms that many customers have, and we’ll be busting those in this blog.
Myth 1: Escape Rooms are scary like a horror movie.
While it’s true that there are scary themed escape rooms involving fake zombies, fake killers and other scary things, which can be fun for some, but as a whole, escape rooms are intended to be fun for everyone. Epic Escape Game strives to create fun scenarios that the whole family can enjoy together, not to scare our customers. Any escape room you choose to play at Epic Escape is a family-friendly experience. It’s also not going to be like a horror movie.
Myth 2: The “Easy Room” is too easy.
One thing we often hear from customers is that they didn’t choose the introductory room for their first escape room because they feel it is too easy. The truth is most escape rooms will always be somewhat challenging. They are intended to be that way as we encourage you to think creatively and outside the box. We agree with these customers that a room that is too easy would not be fun! That’s why a lot of our introductory rooms at Epic Escape are around a 50% escape rate. Depending on the location you choose, some of the intro rooms are even less than a 50% escape rate. We always recommend our players choose an intro room for their first escape room experience to help them understand what escape rooms are all about.
Myth 3: It’s a claustrophobic experience, and I’m locked in where I can’t get out
Claustrophobia is a legitimate concern for many people, but as mentioned above, our intention is not to scare our customers. We want you to have fun and feel safe in our escape rooms. Most of our rooms are roughly the size of a typical bedroom or living room of a house. Some of our rooms might include tight spaces, but most of the time it is not required for every player to be in those tight spaces. If a particular room does require every player to interact in small space, you will find a disclaimer on our website to explain that. If ever there is a concern of a tight space in one of our rooms, we encourage you to contact us. You can find a phone number for the location of your choice also on our website. Now about being locked in, all of the rooms at Epic Escape Game include an emergency exit code or button if they are locked so at any point players can leave the room. At some of our locations, the doors are not actually locked so that the door can be opened at any time.
At Epic Escape Game, our mission is to create a fun, epic experience for families and escape room enthusiasts alike! We hope to offer a safe atmosphere for players to challenge their brains, and have fun together. There will always be varying ideas about escape rooms but hopefully this has helped to bust the myths surrounding them!
